Delta pilots are without peer in the identification of light chop.

So sad that Delta is phasing out it’s 747 fleet. This particular 747 was sent to the great beyond at Pinal Airpark, Arizona in December.

Delta’s 747s will be gone in a year.

They never really wanted them in the first place, IIRC. I think their entire fleet of 747s were NWA ones that came with the merger.

“uh.. this is the captain speaking. You might want to hold on to your drinks for a minute or two while we throttle through a little turbulence... thank you”

Correct - They operated a handful of 747-100's way back when, then got the -400's with the merger. They also just cancelled the NWA order of new 787's that they inherited. Delta seems to be weeding out the Boeing fleet and moving towards Airbus.

I use that pic frequently when I give industry presentations. Everyone likes seeing the 747.

I have to go to Asia for a conference in a couple of months. I am hoping for one more ride.

For all I talk and write about airplanes, I have never flown on a 747. I flew a DC-10 about 25 years ago for about 20 minutes (gear trouble meant a return to the airport) and a 767 to Europe twice. But that’s it. It looks like the 747 will have to remain on my bucket list, because I don’t think I’ll get it checked off.

I am missing the 787 and 380 and the Russian stuff.
